A unit featuring easy to medium geometry problems which can be solved using only the most basic tools: angle chasing, power of a point, homothety. It can be thought of as a follow-up to Part I of EGMO.

Unit Summary

This unit is a good introduction to olympiad geometry, covering the same topics as Chapters 1-3 in EGMO, being angle chasing, power of a point, and homothety. The unit teaches how to use these synthetic tactics to their maximum potential, teaching the user to master their fundamentals. The problems are highly synthetic, often relying on making slick observations that show one point is equal to another. A good diagram is often helpful.

This unit is about medium for a B unit and an easy to medium D unit, although some problems are quite challenging for those who are not experienced with geometry.

After this unit, one can look forward to other standard geometry units, such as Bary, Classical Geo, Harmonic, Complex, amongst others.

Notable Problems

2004 IMO 1: Basic techniques, notable for its simplicity.

2000 IMO 1: Short intro problem. Not too easy, sticks with the theme of the unit.

2020 ELMO 4: Pretty complex problem with a lot of moving parts. Difficult for the 1/4 position.

2021 ISL G4: A required 9 pointer on DGY. Difficult, but very nice and fun.

2020 ISL G8: A required 9 pointer on DGW.
